FANA is an acronym for Forwarder’s Agency Network Association Ltd., which is comprised of independent owner operated Freight Forwarding firms all over the world.

FANA was founded in 1993 at a meeting in Hong Kong of like minded and well established independent Freight Forwarders. We were amongst the first of such organizations established and our longevity and success attests to the excellence and dedication of our ever growing membership.

While we are flattered by the number of FANA like associations that have sprung up in the past years, we strongly believe that our adherence to the following fundamental tenets makes FANA members a superior choice for both the importing and exporting business community as well as for interested applicants for membership:

1. Member firms are Owner Operated. Think of your own experience as a buying consumer whether in the business to business or personal service (such as retail) environment. Are you more likely to receive personalized, concerned and conscientious service from a large impersonal multinational staffed by transient and uncommitted clerks or from a firm where the owner himself exerts a hands on presence and guidance to all staff and indeed makes himself freely available to all clients ? As owner operators we have the freedom and will to settle all issues without having to defer to some distant and uncaring head office . Those of you experienced at all in international transport know that unforeseen circumstances can easily arise and can well appreciate the importance of being able to deal directly with the actual decision makers at your freight forwarder. Big is rarely better, especially in the freight forwarding industry
   
2. Full Membership is limited to One only Member per country *. We have noted that a great number of FANA like organizations seem to actively solicit as many members as possible regardless of how many members a given country might already be represented by. We strongly believe that this leads to both a dilution in quality of representation as well as acrimonious relations between same country members .
   * with the exception of the U.S.A., India, Brazil and China.
   
3. All of the administrative posts and committee memberships in the FANA network are performed by enthusiastic volunteering members on a strictly pro bono basis. We think that this speaks volumes as to our sense of commitment to making FANA the best kind of commonwealth for our members and their clients. Accordingly, FANA is not set up with nor driven by the goal of amassing increasing amounts of membership dues to finance the payment of salaried managers and all their commensurate expenses. Annual membership fees are extremely reasonable at only USD 750.00 and we exercise a good sense of business discipline over association expenses.

By no means ! This would neither be wise nor realistic. FANA does not have members in every corner of the globe and we would never attempt to limit our members’ scope for action. Each FANA member maintains their own network of agents in many countries not yet represented by FANA in order to efficiently meet the needs of their own roster of clients. In fact, these sub networks provide an excellent proving ground for potential FANA applicant members.
