The Forwarding Agencies Network Association (FANA)
was created to establish an international organization
of owner operated Freight Forwarders/NVOCCs,
supporting one another in sales, marketing and
operational matters to achieve quality of service,
reliability and security for the members
mutual benefit.
Our strength in numbers allows us to successfully
compete with the large multinational forwarders
all the while offering to clients the superior
flexibility and responsiveness of dealing with
a locally owner operated firm.
FANA is an organization legally incorporated
in Hong Kong. Each Member remains independent
and is allowed to continue their existing business
relationship with their current agents, but it
is expected that each Member will endeavor to
promote and strengthen business with the other
FANA Members. It is agreed to work jointly under
a uniform logo and banner and to conduct business
in an ethical, fair and professional manner.
It has been agreed that each country is to be
represented by one Full Member only, with the
exceptions of the United States of America, China, India
and Brazil. An Associate
Member from a country already represented may
be nominated by the Full Member of that same country
should the Member consider it appropriate. FANA
currently has Full Members representing China,
Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines,
Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom,
France, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Netherlands, USA,
Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico and South Africa.
The FANA Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held
every 12 months in a different country. Each Full
Member has voting rights. Associated Members are
welcome to attend the AGM but do not have any
voting rights. Any Member is eligible to be elected
Chairman for the following year.
Applicants must be nominated by the Membership
Committee and complete and sign the FANA Agreement
and Questionnaire provided to them by the Committee.
Completed applications are circulated to the Membership
Committee members and, subject to majority acceptance
by them, the submitting applicants are invited
for a trial membership period of not less than
six months. Final acceptance is made by vote of
the full Membership at the next AGM.
Standing committees have been established over
the years including the above mentioned Membership
Committee and an Ethics
Committee. The Ethics
Committee adjudicates inter Member disputes
with binding on all parties resolutions. Happily,
their services are rarely required as most members
settle their own few disagreements in a fair and
equitable fashion as befits capable independent
business people.
Assorted ad hoc committees have been established
over the years to address particular areas of
concern to the membership and have been duly dissolved
once their work was done
